WHAT IS SELANK?

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the endogenous immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), investigated in the scientific literature for its effects on GABAergic signaling, enkephalin system activity, and immune-neuroendocrine interactions. It has been studied in preclinical models and in early human clinical research for anxiolytic-like, neurocognitive, and immunomodulatory properties.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESEARCH
  • GABAergic-system signaling
  • Enkephalin-system biology
  • Neuroimmune interactions
  • Stress-response pathways
  • Cytokine and chemokine gene expression
  • Neurocognitive research

  • Published studies have investigated anxiolytic-like activity in preclinical models without the classical sedative or muscle-relaxant effects observed with some traditional anxiolytic agents.
  • Research suggests modulation of GABA-receptor subunit expression and GABAergic neurotransmission in cell-based and animal models.
  • Current evidence indicates inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes and effects on enkephalin activity in blood and neural tissue in reported datasets.
  • Investigators have observed changes in cytokine, chemokine, and neuroimmune gene-expression profiles in preclinical models and early human studies.

Selank is being studied for its ability to influence GABAergic neurotransmission, including modulation of GABA-receptor subunit gene expression, and to inhibit enkephalin-degrading enzymes such as prolyl endopeptidase. Current evidence indicates that these actions may affect enkephalin half-life and GABAergic tone. Published work also suggests broader immunomodulatory effects, including altered expression of genes involved in cytokine and chemokine signaling, linking central nervous system activity with neuroimmune pathways.
